Senior News serves the largest growing demographic in Humboldt County. According to the U.S. Census of 2010, seniors (65 and over) compose 13.2 percent of the population in Humboldt. Senior News has been published by the Humboldt Senior Resource Center since 1981. Unique in Northern California, this 24-page monthly newspaper is distributed along a 150-mile stretch of the Northwest California coast. Each month Senior News tells stories of local seniors and local issues of importance to seniors, their families and caregivers. This nonprofit newspaper is funded by local businesses and nonprofits through advertising dollars.
A two-person staff is augmented by community volunteer writers and a senior advisory board. Circulation: 13,000
5,000 distributed by senior volunteers who distribute the paper to more than 100 stores, restaurants and meeting places from Crescent City to Garberville; and subscribers nationwide.
8,000 included the last Tuesday of the month in the Times-Standard for its subscribers.
